3, 2, 1… Monday! 🚀 April fools! No, wait, it is actually Monday. Sorry, my attempt at levity failed. Whatever. Let’s just get to work.

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.”
-Michael Jordan

I’m sitting here in an office full of comic books and superhero memorabilia writing an article about fun in the workplace.

So, what do I do? Google it, of course.

OMG.

If you ever want an anthology on how to corporatize fun into activities everybody at your office hates, Google “fun in the workplace.”

Seriously, one site actually recommended an “office fun committee.”

Fun isn’t an activity you can force your employees to participate in. And it’s certainly not humiliating introverts with the Happy Birthday song in front of the whole $@#% office.

Fun is a culture where people feel respected and valued. Where they feel comfortable as part of the team. Where the boss cares about what’s going on in your life and backs it up with thoughtful gestures.

Sometimes that means a Nerf gun fight in the middle of the work day. Sometimes it’s stepping out for a quiet cup of coffee.

Get to know your team and you’ll find out what sparks delight in their day.

Remember, it’s all about creating a workplace your team members want to be at. No amount of foosball tables can top a boss who genuinely values her people.

Challenge

This week, don’t make fun a “program.” Make it part of your culture.
